First Aid for poison control

Poisoning can occur after exposure to a poisonous substance by 4 different routes. Inhalation, skin (or eye) contact, ingestion, or injection. The following first aid measures can make a difference if followed right after a poison exposure. Remember, if the victim collapses, has a seizure, or has trouble breathing, call the Saudi Red Crescent 997 right away.

In case of

Inhalation of toxic substance:

Immediately get the person to fresh air. Stay away from toxic fumes and gases. Open doors and windows. If the victim is not breathing, call 997 for an ambulance and start CPR if you are medically qualified.

Skin contamination with a toxic substance:

Remove contaminated clothing and flush the skin with water for 10 minutes. Then wash gently with soap and water, and rinse.

Toxic substance splash into the Eye:

Rinse the eye with water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses if possible. Let the patient blink as much as possible during irrigation. Do not force eyelid open.

Ingestion:

Do not give anything by mouth unless instructed by the healthcare professional. Do not induce vomiting.

** After following the above steps, you can proceed to the nearest emergency room.
