Rehabilitation Team
 
At the Rehabilitation Hospital of King Fahad Medical City (RH-KFMC), we are committed to helping people regain their lives and independence after a disabling illness or injury. We do that by providing excellent care. But more than that, we are committed to supporting patients and families in their journey of recovery.

Our patients benefit from the expertise of a wide range of skilled rehabilitation professionals who work together in an interdisciplinary rehabilitation. Each team member contributes specialized knowledge to the care we provide.

You and your family members or caregivers are the most important team members. Your involvement is essential to setting and meeting your goals. You also will discuss concerns, desires, and needs with other team members.
Our inpatients will work with some or all of the following rehabilitation specialists, depending on their needs:
 
 
·         Physiatrists: The Physiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in rehabilitative medicine. The physiatrist manages medical care, directs the rehabilitation team and consults with other physicians regarding patient care.
·         Consulting Physician:  Depending on other injuries or circumstances unique to each patient, a variety of other physician specialists may be asked to consult, recommend, or treat.  These may be specialists in neurology, pulmonary disease, orthopedics, cardiovascular problems, gastroenterology, or other areas.
·         Rehabilitation Nurses: work closely with physicians and the rehabilitation team to respond to your medical nursing and therapy needs. Rehabilitation nurses assist with skin management, bowel and bladder training, and other self-care skills as needed.
·         Case and care plan managers: act as a resource for you and your family members. Case and care plan managers coordinate many aspects of care, including; education, team conferences, and discharge planning. Case and care plan managers also function as the Patient Representative and are available to address any other questions that arise during your rehabilitation stay.
·         Occupational Therapists: assist you in improving strength and coordination, cognitive perceptual function, regaining independence in normal activities of daily living and achieving skills so you can return home, to school or to work.
·         Physical Therapists: help you regain strength, balance, coordination and endurance so you can walk, climb stairs, and manage other physical activities that enhance your mobility.
·         Speech-Language Pathologists: help you with swallowing, communication, language, cognitive linguistics such as memory, thinking skills.
·         Art therapists:  through art work can increase awareness of self, cope with symptoms, stress, and traumatic experiences, enhance cognitive abilities, and enjoy the life-affirming pleasures of artistic creativity.
·         Rehabilitation Psychologist: A psychologist who applies psychological knowledge and understanding on behalf of individuals with disabilities.  The Rehabilitation Psychologist provides services with the goal of increasing function and reducing disability, activity limitations, and societal participation restrictions. The rehabilitation psychologist also provides supportive psychotherapy.
·         Social workers: offer emotional and social support as you and your family cope with life changes. They might assist or direct you to obtain assistance from other community agencies.
·         Vocational Councilor: assist you with returning to school, work or assist you with identifying future career opportunities that suites your new functional abilities.
·         Heath educators: provides you with the necessary knowledge about your condition and recovery.
·         Dietitians: review your nutritional needs and provide nutritional education and counseling.
Other team members might be involved in the program according to the special needs of each patient.
