The In-Motion Robotics Program run by Occupational Therapists; is one of the new programs that employs innovative and state of the art technology in the rehabilitation of the neurologically impaired upper extremity.
The In-Motion Robotics assesses the patient's movement and responds to a patient's continually changing ability. Like an experienced clinician the robot guides the exercise treatment through a tailored program that provides systematic, repetitive assisted and/or resisted movements according to patient’s capacity. Reporting and feedback provides to patients varies which may include feedback regarding, initiated movement, maximum distance along axis, active power, minimum jerk deviation, and distance along straight line:
In-Motion Robotics is used with stroke patients, patients with neurologically impaired upper extremity due to traumatic brain injuries and cerebral palsy. Clinical research record, for the In-Motion system has showed substantial effectiveness for functional and motor recovery.
The program employs three robots:
1.       The Shoulder – Elbow Planar Robot;
2.       The Shoulder –Elbow Linear Robot;
3.       The Wrist Robot.

Low vision, partial sighted and visual impairment are all terms to state a vision loss that cannot be corrected with ordinary glasses, contact lenses or surgeries.
Low vision is defined according to the World Health Organization (WHO) as “a person with low vision is one who has impairment of visual functioning even after treatment and/or standard refractive correction, and has a visual acuity of less than 6/18 to light perception, or a visual field less than 10 degrees from the point of fixation, but who uses, or is potentially able to use, vision for the planning and/or execution of a task”
A multidisciplinary approach is adapted in the management of low vision patients. The low vision clinic has an interdisciplinary staff that includes low vision optometrists, occupational therapists and members from other services as needed.
The rehabilitation of a visually impaired individual may involve a variety of treatment modalities including prescription of electronic and non-electronic low vision aids, adaptive computer software, glare control, modification of the patient’s environment, counseling and education of the patient and family, skills training, independent living aids, occupational therapy,  orientation and mobility training.

Environmental modifications are changes made to adapt living spaces to meet the needs of people with physical limitations so that they can continue to live independently and safely. Modifications can range from something as simple as replacing cabinet doorknobs with pull handles to full-scale construction projects that require installing wheelchair ramps and widening doorways. The following are some examples of what home modifications may include:
                      Grab bars in the bathroom (including by the bathtub, shower, and toilet)
                      Handheld, flexible shower heads
                      Handrails on both sides of staircases and for outside steps
                      Lever-operated faucets that are easy to turn on and off
                      Sliding or revolving shelves for cabinets in the kitchen
                      Walk-in showers
The Environmental modification program is provided by our Occupational Therapists; who in collaboration with the patients, his/her family or even employer perform a thorough evaluation to recommend environmental modification aiming to maximize independence and ensure a barrier free environment at home, work, or school.
