Rehabilitation Hospital Wins CARF Accreditation
The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) has awarded its accreditation to the Rehabilitation Hospital at King Fahd Medical City as a program for inpatients' rehabilitation. With this accreditation, Rehabilitation Hospital becomes the first hospital to win such accreditation in the Middle East region and the first MOH government hospital to win the accreditation.
Dr. Abdullah bin Sulaiman Alamro, Chief Executive Officer of King Fahd Medical City, pointed out that the accreditation represents an accomplishment for King Fahd Medical City and is an indicator of the extent of its commitment to the application of world standards in medical services in the rehabilitation field. He added that the accreditation by CARF, the independent international organization which applies standards developed by a set of qualified experts focuses on the development of quality services, will contribute to raise the efficiency of medical services provided to patients through providing high quality services. It is also within the aspirations of King Fahd Medical City's staff to turn their institution into a reference institution applying world standards in a number of specializations.
It is quite known that all the accomplishments and development seen at King Fahd Medical City have been made with the support of the wise leadership; in addition to the observation and monitoring by H.E. Minister of Health who helped in overcoming all obstacles which reflected on performance and accomplishments.
Dr. Ahmed Abu Aba'a, Medical Director of Rehabilitation Hospital, stated that CARF accredited patients' rehabilitation program at the Rehabilitation Hospital for three years. Such accreditation is considered the highest level awarded to any hospital. He added that the accreditation went through several phases. There were standards, procedures and obligations most important of which were the application of quality standards. The award of the accreditation will ensure constant good quality of services provided by a qualified multi-disciplined medical rehabilitation team to serve patients. Moreover, CARF accreditation will contribute in attracting rehabilitation specialists to work at accredited institutions, especially in the Middle East, which lacks training programs in the medical rehabilitation field. CARF enables to conduct international cooperation with hospitals and international centers as well as training, research and human resources development.
It is worth stating that the Rehabilitation Hospital is a major hospital within King Fahd Medical City opened under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Health in 2005 and is considered the first hospital affiliated to the Ministry of Health which provides comprehensive medical rehabilitation services for newly injured individuals and patients.
The hospital has a 140-bed capacity for medical rehabilitation programs involving spinal cord injuries, head injuries, stroke patients, cerebral palsy, amputated limbs cases, tumors, cardiovascular cases, and other disabilities. The services are provided through outpatient clinics, inpatient wards or daily care programs.
